GENERAL LAB EQUIPMENT

A still is an apparatus used to distill liquid mixtures by heating to selectively boil and then cooling to condense the vapor. A still uses the same concepts as a basic distillation apparatus, but on a much larger scale.

Shaking incubators are often used for cell culturing, cell aeration, and solubility studies.

The primary purpose of a Bio Safety Cabinet is to serve as a means to protect the laboratory worker and the surrounding environment from pathogens. All exhaust air is HEPA-filtered as it exits the bio safety cabinet, removing harmful bacteria and viruses.

Colony counters are used to estimate a liquid culture's density of microorganisms by counting individual colonies on an agar plate, slide, mini gel, or Petri dish.

A water bath is laboratory equipment made from a container filled with heated water. It is used to incubate samples in water at a constant temperature over a long period of time.

The polarizing microscope is used mainly in geological studies for geological specimens but also in medicine and biology. This type of microscope differs from the normal one by using a polarized light, in which the light waves vibrate in one direction.

Plant growth chambers are designed to produce environmental conditions (humidity and temperature) that maximize plant growth. They are sometimes called environmental chambers or terrestrial plant growth chambers.

Ethylene oxide sterilization is a chemical process consisting of four primary variables: gas concentration, humidity, temperature and time.

Freeze drying, also known as lyophilisation or cryodessication, is a low temperature dehydration process which involves freezing the product, lowering pressure, then removing the ice by sublimation.

A seed germination machine provides controlled environment for propagation of seeds, incubation, seed germination and development tests.

An autoclave is a pressure chamber used to carry out industrial processes requiring elevated temperature and pressure different from ambient air pressure.

Deionization is a chemical process that uses specially manufactured ion-exchange resins, which exchange hydrogen and hydroxide ions for dissolved minerals, and then recombine to form water.

ULT Freezers are designed mainly with at least -80 deg temperature to protect samples.

Ultra Low Freezer

A magnetic stirrer or magnetic mixer is a laboratory device that employs a rotating magnetic field to cause a stir bar (or flea) immersed in a liquid to spin very quickly, thus stirring it.

Hot Plate Stirrer

A muffle furnace (sometimes retort furnace in historical usage) is a furnace in which the subject material is isolated from the fuel and all of the products of combustion, including gases and flying ash.

Fermentation is a metabolic process that consumes sugar in the absence of oxygen. The products are organic acids, gases, or alcohol.
